The Barbara & Richard Long Special
Barbara and Richard Long are life-long music fans and Barbara, in particular, has appeared Zelig-like at key moments of rock history and has lived to tell the tales. After taking early retirement from teaching Barbara continued to teach children in the Entertainment Industry across Film, TV, Theatre and Radio and has many stories to tell about famous artists (and not so famous) from the 1960s onwards.
The stories we will hear tonight are not just about musician either – actors such as Penelope Keith, Geoffrey Rush and Mark Rylance will make an appearance, the chef Tony Tobim and a whole litany of household names in the rock world including Chris Farlowe, Mark Knopfler, Fats Domino, Walter Trout and many more.
As you have come to expect there is a Southend connection too with Richard living just outside the town in Benfleet from the age of 16 for a while - and legendary Southend rock band The Hamsters will I’m sure get a mention. By day Richard runs two IT businesses and is the kind of guy you call when you are sobbing at home because your computer won’t do what you want it to.
