Enjoy a warming curry a glass of wine plus an informative talk by a guest speaker. You can also look for shooting stars associated with the Leonids meteor shower as well as the tail end of the Taurids meteor shower.

The Taurids shower marks the time when the Earth passes through the dust trail of comet Encke. The debris left behind by the comet is the largest in the inner solar system and it takes several weeks for the Earth to pass through it, giving an extended period of activity; 20th October - 30th November. The peak activity for the Taurids is 12th November so you will only be catching a few bright streaks of light.

The second meteor shower is the Leonids, which occurs as Earth passes through the debris trail left behind by comet Tempel-Tuttle. These meteors are very fast and often leave persistent trails behind them. The peak activity is the evening of the 17th November. The natural limits of the shower are over a much shorter duration than for the Taurids; 15th - 20th November.

While the telescopes are not used to spot meteors, if the weather does permit you will get the chance to look at some other interesting celestial objects through the large telescopes.

The evening aims to be both informal and informative. If the weather is unsuitable on themed evenings, the talk will go ahead regardless and a comprehensive tour of the telescopes will replace viewing.

Numbers are limited to 80, so book early to secure your place. There is NO alternative menu to the curry.

A warrant is issued for the arrest of Chilean senator Pablo Neruda. Attempting to flee the country, he is pursued by a dashing but inept detective. The film is as much a celebration of the medium as the man, morphing from noir to Hitchcockian chase to farce to western.

Events are relayed with lashings of humour and romance, the sumptuous staging and showy camera work fitting the flamboyant protagonist who's ill-suited to slumming it as a fugitive in the shadows. In fact, this man of noble principles and notable creativity is shown to be something of a scoundrel. An imaginative, unforgettable film.

Tickets £5 at the door. Cert 15.

This charming comedy combines endearing characters with generous helpings of deadpan humour. It tells the story of Ricky Baker, a 13-year-old delinquent in New Zealand, who ventures into the wilderness to avoid juvenile detention. He is tracked down by his foster uncle, Hector, a grumpy, taciturn mountain man who knows how to survive in the bush. The two of them are forced to become fugitives, as Ricky's disappearance causes a national manhunt. As they try to stay one step ahead of the authorities, they form a delightful double act, creating a mismatched duo who are utterly joyous to watch. Don’t miss it.

Gertrude Lowthian Bell, sometimes called 'the female Lawrence of Arabia', was a British adventurer, archaeologist and political power-house. Recruited by the British Military Intelligence after World War I, she played a significant role in British imperial policy-making in the Middle East, notably Iraq.

Voiced and executive-produced by Tilda Swinton, the film chronicles Bell’s journey into the uncharted Arabian desert and all-male halls of colonial power with never-seen-before archival footage of the region shot a century ago. The film takes us into a past that is eerily current.
