Time: 8:00pm

New members welcome. Tonight - Kevin Gordon Tour

Seaford Sweethearts WI believe that life isn’t all about tea and cake, but it’s a great place to start. A group for women who want to rediscover old crafts and skills and brush up on existing ones, whilst enjoying a cuppa, some cake and a good old chinwag.

They uphold some of the WI traditions, such as learning to make fabulous preserves and yummy cakes and will also be experimenting with new skills; after all who wouldn’t love to know how to take the perfect portrait photo, or maybe make your own bead necklace?

They’d like to contribute to the community and the planet whilst having fun and anyone who wishes to join them in this will be welcomed.

The group is definitely more about ‘doing’ than ‘viewing’, so go along prepared to join in.

Grand Opening of the new Wheelchair Swing

Time: 1:00pm
Where: The Salts Recreation Ground, Richmond Road BN25 1DR
Town: Seaford

Seaford Town Council is pleased to announce the official opening of the new wheelchair swing.

This has been made possible by the incredible amount of funding raised by Seaford's previous Young Mayor, Thomas Exley. The swing is a piece of play equipment which allows young people in wheelchairs to experience play like any other child. It is a vital piece of equipment for the town with a growing percentage of children requiring the use of a wheelchair. The swing will provide a stimulation to the senses for children who are disabled.

Any young wheelchair users who would like to be one of the first people to try the swing should get in touch with the Council.

Go along to show your support.

For the first week of the Newhaven Festival from Saturday 18th till Friday the 24th, St. Michael's church is being transformed into a restorative space to bathe in the sound of Newhaven birdsong.

It's a simple idea. From morning till evening the church is going to be filled with field recordings of birdsong taken in the hills, cliffs and woodlands surrounding our town. You can go for as long or as little as you like. Sit in silence in the beautiful 12th century Norman church and bathe in the surround-sound of birds.

There's no extra info, no chatting, no interactions necessary. Just a longing for some still time in this architectural jewel of the town.
Curated by Alistair Appleton, with field recordings from Newhaven acoustic artist Alice Etteridge and the kind support of Rev. Martin Miller and members of St. Michael's congregation.

During the weekend of the 18th and 19th August, as part of the opening programme of the Festival, Alistair Appleton will be interviewing 36 inhabitants of Newhaven (or fans of the place) in an intimate one-on-one setting. Just five minutes on camera to speak all your thoughts and views on the town and surrounding landscape of Newhaven.

What's your favourite part of the town? What's the downside of living here? What happened for you here? Is there a magic spot that summons memories for you?

In 4 sessions, each an hour and half long, Alistair will interview 9 people per session and their answers will be recorded on video. So it's an intimate chat - but also saved for posterity. If you're happy, your interview will then be woven together into a montage of Newhaveners talking about their town.

You'll need to sign up in advance and book yourself a slot. First come, first served. The location is yet to be announced.
Alistair Appleton is a broadcaster, psychotherapist and meditation teacher.

The Original Theatre Company and York Theatre Royal present Alan Bennett’s The Habit of Art.

Alan Bennett is one our greatest and most celebrated playwrights, with a cavalcade of stage and screen blockbusters including The History Boys, The Madness of King George and Talking Heads.

He is applauded as a genius for his sharp character observations and treasured for the way he beautifully balances wit, wistfulness and compassion.

In The Habit of Art Bennett gives us a play about a meeting between the poet WH Auden and the composer Benjamin Britten. Exploring friendship, rivalry and heartache this multi-layered masterpiece examines the joy, pain and emotional cost of creativity.

This production, directed by Philip Franks, marks the first ever revival of the play and stars the Olivier Award-winning Matthew Kelly (Of Mice and Men, Toast and Pride and Prejudice) and David Yelland (Chariots of Fire and The Crown).
